Intro

Hellvape have pushed out a new member to expand its tried-and-true Dead Rabbit range, the Hellvape Dead Rabbit Max RDA! Just as the name suggests, this latest version is a full-sized RDA featuring a 28mm ID, bigger than any of its predecessors like Dead Rabbit 3 and Hellbeast.

There’s not much difference in other aspects. Dead Rabbit Max retains the classical four-post deck allowing for both single and dual coil builds, and the side airflow system designed for flavor.

As “Dead Rabbit” is a name always on our list for best RDAs and RTAs, we can’t wait to see what new surprises the updated version would spring on us. So…days of testing came right here. Read on, this review will cover all the pros (in green) and cons (in red) we found about the Hellvape Dead Rabbit Max RDA.

Appearance

Hellvape Dead Rabbit Max RDA

Hellvape Dead Rabbit Max RDA

The Dead Rabbit Max RDA is constructed of durable stainless steel and comes with up to seven colors. Its outer cap is of great quality, which eliminates any concerns about flaking or chipping. Engraved on two sides of the cap is Hellvape’s rabbit logo, in a simpler version though with only ears and eyes left. And actually the eyes section doubles as the RDA’s airflow inlets.

We could see Hellvape’s signature aesthetic design reappearing in this RDA: a neat and simplified outer cover plus a flashy mouthpiece. This is an 810 mouthpiece which is very easy to remove or put back. If you want, it’s okay to replace it with any other 810 drip tips you like to slightly personalize the gadget. 510 drip tip could also work as long as you’ve got an 510 adapter at hand.

At the base of it is a well-crafted 510 connector. If we replace it with the squonk pin separately included in the kit, the Dead Rabbit Max will then be ready for squonkers to allow for bottom feeding. (If you’re fond of the convenient squonking style but can’t decide on a good device, be sure to check our list of best squonk mods this year!)

Build Deck

Hellvape Dead Rabbit Max RDA

The Dead Rabbit Max does exactly what it says on the tin by maxing out its deck space. It elevates the deck ID from the average 24mm to 28mm, leaving a quite spacious room to build no matter single or multiple coils. That also means more freedom to wrap and arrange the coils as we like.

Another edge of the Dead Rabbit Max over typical RDAs is its deeper juice well which can store more vape juice and which needs less dripping. From our experience, an RDA on average requires us to re-drip every 4 puffs. But this one can last for more than 8 puffs—this is an amazing leap.

Compared to other RDAs, building on atomizers from the Dead Rabbit series is always easier. Their smart internal engineering makes our builds literally hassle free. Like its previous models, Max RDA applies the unique drop-style design into its four posts. Its coils sit above the posts rather than on the side of them; to install coils, we just drop them in the post holes and they’ll line up neatly till secured in place.

In addition, Hellvape makes the posts a bit angled (like two sets of rabbit ears), with the ends quite a way off the deck base. That gives us ample spaces to trim coil legs even if we miscalculate the required coil length in the beginning. That doesn’t happen often though. The kit provides a trimming tool, on which Hellvape recommend users cut the legs to 5mm (see the notch with a white triangle marking resting under). If you’re none the wiser about leg length, it’s great to use the recommended one.

Overall, even to those who have little experience in rebuildable atomizers, the RDA kit is friendly enough. Its perfect design makes sure it’s easy to work with. It also includes in an accessory bag that comes in handy.

Airflow

DSC01150

The Hellvape Dead Rabbit Max utilizes a side airflow system that sends air to hit coils horizontally. It’s geared for brilliant flavors. What’s more, the gadget makes some tweaks to the post heads just as Dead Rabbit 3 does: it drops out of the squared posts and rounds them off instead. Perhaps because the tweak helps air to go past and spin around coils with less resistance, we can notice obviously smoother draws and better flavor from the Max.

But frankly speaking, when compared to the previous Dead Rabbit 3, the Max RDA takes a step backwards in the AFC system. In addition to a slot, Dead Rabbit 3 drills rows of air holes on itself (honeycomb-like). That’s for more precise control over the air going in, as well as better smoothing out clouds. While the latest Dead Rabbit Max has only two X-shaped inlets on both sides—gone is the honeycomb add-on. And the X design makes adjustment to the air amount a real big fiddle.

The outer AFC cap is a little too tight, which takes some force to spin. This is an issue we found in several Dead Rabbit atomizers though.

Talking from experience, it’s almost unlikely to avoid leakage in a side airflow RDA. After days of using, some e-liquid leaks over the inner cap of the Dead Rabbit Max as well, but luckily not too much there.

Flavor & Vapor Production

We used the trustworthy VOOPOO Drag 3 box mod, and a 30:70 PG/VG ratio e-juice in the test. When we put out at 80W, or higher, the Dead Rabbit Max RDA starts to show impressive flavor delivery and cloud size.

It’s safe to say atomizer products from Hellvape has never let us down. The flavor produced by the Dead Rabbit Max absolutely places it among the best we can get. It’s surely a flavor monster.

Verdict

The key update in the Hellvape Dead Rabbit Max RDA is its scaled-up build deck, with the ID leaping 24mm to 28mm. It’s a definite appeal to beginners who lack expertise in building on an atomizer, since you’ve got a spacious deck to try your hand. As for other sections, Max and the previous Dead Rabbit 3 are much alike. They have the same angled drop-style posts with round heads, really deep juice well and side airflow—all of these are expertly combined to make for their stunning flavor.

Max’s airflow inlets, in our view, are not as good as the Dead Rabbit 3. Fortunately, it only affects the ease of use and cloud smoothness a bit. Flavor from the Dead Rabbit Max RDA can still satisfy the most finicky of vapers.

Although Hellvape Dead Rabbit Max RDA is not yet available to the public, we do recommend you to buy one once it’s released online. You’ll be happy about the decision. Feel free to tell us your take on the Dead Rabbit Max Rabbit in the comment section below!
