Introduction

The Geekvape recently announced a new member of the Aegis family, the Aegis Hero pod mod kit. Powered by a 1200mAh battery, Aegis Hero comes with an adjustable output range between 5-45W, very similar to that of the Havok V1 pod mod from Uwell (5-65W). Although Hero’s wattage range is slightly narrower, its vaping performance is just surprisingly as good. Equipped with AS Chipset and paired with a 4.0mL refillable pod, it delivers delicious flavour and decent vapour with the buck-boost system. It also features IP67 rating tri-proof tech that protects the device from water, dust and shock as most Aegis products do, such as the Aegis Nano vape starter kit. Read on below to see how does the Geekvape Aegis Hero vape!

Build Quality and Design

The Aegis Hero comes with a looking quite similar to other Aegis devices. It features a durable zinc alloy frame, measuring 48.15mm by 25.4mm by 82.9mm. It is a compact size that perfectly fits the palm and can easily put in that pocket. The hero weighs 88g, which is not heavy and provides a solid hand feel. You can see the logo “Aegis” on both sides of the device. It also features IP67 rated against water, dust, and shock, prevent the device from damage when it accidentally falls and drops.

The Aegis Hero is available in various colour to meet different preferences. You can choose from black, blue, gunmetal, red, silver and rainbow. I got the rainbow version, which looks stunning thanks to its shiny finish with a mix of different colours.

The Geekvape Aegis Hero has an 0.42inch OLED display screen, which is easy to read and does a good job in displaying vital vaping information like battery level, puff count, working mode, wattage and resistance. Below the screen, there are two adjustment buttons, which are responsive and no rattle.

Overall, the Geekvape Aegis Hero is a compact and well-built device that is really comfortable for using.

Hero Pod and Coils

The Hero pod can hold up 4ml vape juice, larger than the capacity of other Geekvape kits, and features a dark tint so that it is hard to see the juice level. It adopts a convenient top fill system with a silicone stoppered to prevent leaking. You can refill the port via a port on the top, without removing the pod. The pod firmly attaches to the battery with no movement or wiggle. The mouthpiece area combines an airflow control ring and a 510 drip tip. The kit includes two drip tips: a pre-installed wide 510 drip tip and an MTL drip tip.

There is an airflow slot on each side of the mouthpiece area. The airflow can be adjusted by twisting the airflow control ring. I can get an airy direct lung draw with the open airflow and wide drip tip. It delivers a loose MTL draw when restricting the airflow and using the narrow drip tip.

The kit comes with two coils, a 0.4ohm G coil rated for 25-33W for a loose MTL draw and a 0.6ohm G coil rated for 15-25W for DL vaping. The 0.6ohm coil works so well with the regular nicotine e-juice. It is a cool vape at 15w when using the nicotine salts. I tested the 0.4ohm coil with a 6mg regular nicotine e-liquid. At 25w, the flavour is average but vapour is decent. The flavour becomes better at 33w. It is quite a smooth vape when using the wide drip tip and open airflow.

Battery and Charging

The Geekvape Hero uses a micro USB charging, which is sealed by a rubber plug. It takes about one hour to charge from dead to flap. It also supports pass-through and utilizes a progress bar to indicate charging.

Verdict

Geekvape Aegis Hero is a portable and powerful device. I love its shockproof, waterproof and dustproof features. The pod connects firmly with the device and adopts a convenient top-fill system. The adjustable airflow allows you to find the best vaping experience. Overall, Geekvape did a decent job on the design of this kit.
