These days, more vapers are looking for the convenience of a pod system, and Voopoo has risen to the challenge with its Drag Q pod system kit. Since some pod systems can be more than a little dodgy, we thought we’d give this kit a try and see whether it ticks all the boxes for quality vaping.

VooPoo has already released a couple of pod systems – the Drag S and the Drag X – so we’re wondering whether the Voopoo Drag Q would measure up and whether it has anything different to offer. Slightly smaller and lighter than its older siblings, it boasts some different features that make this system well worth a look but also ensures it has a lot to live up to. Now delve in with us!

Design and Quality – 9

Voopoo Drag product comparison

Similar in appearance to the Drag S and Drag X pod mods from the same manufacturer, Voopoo Drag Q is lighter and smaller with the appearance of a pod mod thanks to its circular pod that resembles a tank and its tall body. However, it only measures 120mm in height, 35mm in depth, and 20mm in width, so its considerably less chunky than its older siblings and similar in structure to other kinds of large pod vape.

Body

Thanks to the deep, tall design, Voopoo Drag Q is comfortable and easy to hold, with a well-placed fire button to the front of the body. Stylish and attractive, the design comes in a range of colours and boasts a real leather grip embossed with the brand logo.

To the rear of the device, just beneath the pod, there is a control dial for the airflow, which is user-friendly and capable of adjusting both the wattage and airflow simultaneously – an unusual feature.

One further appealing feature is an LED gradient lighting strip along the device’s front. When the power/airflow dial is fully turned down, the strip has a faint glow at the strip’s bottom, but when the power/airflow increases, the strip will gradually light up until it glows fully along the whole strip at the maximum level. Another innovation is that the lighting strip changes colour to indicate the charge level of the battery.

Voopoo Drag Q’s paint quality is good, and the device bottom features a silicone pad so it won’t slip about when laid down.

Voopoo ITO-X Pod

This device comes supplied with the ITO-X POD – Voopoo’s newest tank-style pod. The “pinball buckle” attachment is secure and keeps the pod firmly in place. With a capacity of 3.5ml, its easy to refill and there are no unwanted leaks. There is a narrow-bore, tall MTL drip tip fitted to the tank that cannot be replaced with a different drip tip. Since the pod is virtually clear with just a light tint, it’s a breeze to see the amount of e-juice remaining.

Battery

Voopoo Drag Q’s inbuilt 1250mAh battery charges via the Type-C charging port located on the base of the device. The life of the battery is very good, particularly if the 1.2 Ohm coil is in use. It can last as long as two days for MTL vaping, although for RDL vaping with the 0.5 Ohm coil, the battery will last around one day. A full charge takes only 50 minutes, so there’s virtually no downtime.

Function – 7.5

The simplicity of Voopoo Drag Q is its beauty, and that means it has no advanced features to worry about. There’s no steep learning curve with the Drag Q – it’s pretty much a plug and play device.

The device allows both RDL and MTL vaping, and that’s as advanced as things get with this vape. There’s the option to use either a 0.5 Ohm coil for RDL vaping or the 1.2 Ohm MTL coil for MTL vaping, and the airflow/wattage dial allows you to customise your vape to suit your preferences.

Performance – 9

We tried both the coils included with the Drag Q kit and, although both offered a good experience, the 1.2 Ohm coil was definitely our favourite. When the power/airflow dial is reduced to its minimum level I could get a satisfying MTL draw that ensures a good throat hit. If you prefer a looser MTL draw, a middle power/airflow setting works best, with a noticeably stronger draw. It’s also possible to adjust the power and airflow independently of each other if you prefer by holding down the power button while adjusting the dial so you can really customise your vape to suit your preferences.

As for RDL vaping with the 0.5 Ohm coil, when the dial is turned down to the max, it’s possible to get a satisfying RDL draw that’s ideal with low strength nicotine. With a more open airflow, the draw becomes a lot looser.

Whichever coil you choose, you can expect excellent flavour from Voopoo Drag Q.

Ease of Use – 10

If there’s one thing I can say about the Voopoo Drag Q, it’s that it’s user-friendly. It’s ideal for beginner vapers thanks to the user-friendly system. With no complex features to get to grips with, it’s quick and easy to learn how to use this device and since it’s draw activated, it’s even easier to understand.

Price – 7

In general, most pod vaping systems are fairly affordable, and the Voopoo Drag Q is somewhere towards the higher end of the spectrum. While not as costly as some of its rivals like the Obelisk 65 FC pod kit, it costs significantly more than the cheapest models on the market like SMOK’s Solus Pod kit or Voopoo’s own Vinci Q pod kit. Still, since it offers a pretty high standard of performance, it’s well worth the price, which is relatively modest when compared to traditional mod systems.

Verdict

While Voopoo Drag Q is designed for both RDL and MTL vaping, it offers a slightly better performance for MTL vapers. Nevertheless, it’s still a good quality device whatever your vaping style, and since it’s user-friendly and simple to get to grips with, it’s perfect for newbies. Its slim and small design also makes this the perfect device to take anywhere, while its stylish good looks means you won’t be embarrassed to use it in public!
