In early 2022, the Swedish Government presented a bill prohibiting all non-tobacco vape flavors. If this bill is passed, it will become effective from January 1, 2023. On May 25, 2022, the global advocacy group World Vapers Alliance delivered a letter to Members of Parliament in Sweden and other essential figures in Sweden. The letter asks them to stop the ban on all flavors. It sets up a clear roadmap for moving forward with fair, reasonable regulation and respects adult smokers’ rights to make informed choices about safer alternatives to smoking.”

The Swedish government is considering banning nicotine in vape by-products. If approved, the law would come into action from January 1, 2023. The new regulation would prohibit all vape flavors which are non-tobacco with non-nicotine by-products.

Their letter claims that this legislation would unjustly restrict a company’s ability to modify its e-liquid with any flavoring without an approval process, which is seen as too costly and time-consuming by many small businesses that cater to di drippers.

During the protest against the ban on vaping on May 25, 2022, Michael Lendl, Director of the World Vapors Alliance, said that was a dire situation. People were going to lose their jobs if they stopped vaporizing. Vaping has become popular in the last few years, and it has helped many people to quit smoking. Their members needed to know that they would do everything they could to enable them to fight this big step.

He added, “I benefited from vaping first-hand and have managed to stay smoke-free for the past few years. Like most other smokers, I tried to find a way to quit cigarettes – but nothing worked for me, Patches, gums, inhalers. Vaping – and especially combined with flavors – was my savior. And like me, millions of people worldwide are getting healthier and living better because of vaping.”

Therefore, according to the Director of the World Vapers Alliance, the ban on Vape shall have severe repercussions. This is further supported by research carried out by Nicotine and Tobacco Research.

According to a study in the journal Nicotine and Tobacco Research, Yale School of Public Health researchers found that adults who vaped flavored e-cigarettes were more likely to quit smoking than those who did not use flavored e-cigarettes.

In addition, the researchers found that banning flavored e-cigarettes would push 150,000 people back from quitting smoking and force them into an increased risk of cancer and heart disease.

Research shows that flavors could help people quit smoking. It is essential to keep these products available to those who wish to use them as an alternative to cigarettes.
