Function and Performance – 9
Freemax Maxus Max 168W supports various functions, such as VPC, bypass, TC, Ni and Ti. As a pod mod and considering the fact that many vape mods don’t support temperature mode recently, we are surprised at its multi-functionality.
Maxus DTL Pod and MX Platform
What’s more, if you are an advanced vaper, you can find a variety of options in the MX platform. MX platform adopts Freemax’s FM COILTECH 4.0 coil technology that uses Tea Fiber Cotton Formula & Military Grade Mesh Structure)
Freemax Maxus Max 168W has four compatible coils so far and they are:
- MX1 Mesh Coil 0.15Ω (included in the kit)
- MX2 Mesh Coil 0.2Ω (included in the kit)
- MX1 SS316L Mesh Coil 0.12Ω
- MX3 Mesh Coil 0.15Ω
It’s really simple to remove the coil, you just take off the pod and pull the coil out. But the coil is inserted tightly in the pod so you might need to pull it with the help of a tool.
We used the pre-installed 0.2Ω dual mesh coil on power mode and bypass mode. The suggested rate range is 70-90W, and we found it fitted us the best at 80W. The e-liquid we used was 6% Drip More cheese cake flavor, which was a very sweet and rich juice. Overall, the flavor we had was great and the sweetness was delivered very well. The vapor we exhaled in was so smooth and delicate. We hardly tasted any big droplets and the cloud was huge.
The coil life is about 4 refills. We experienced flavor loss as we almost ran out the 4th refill.
The voltage of Freemax Maxus Max 168W is 4.2V under bypass mode using the 0.2Ω dual mesh coil. We got stronger throat hit but less sweetness compared to power mode.
Lab Test on Power Mode
Our test is conducted on fully charged device, and each test is conducted for at least 3-4 times.
From the table above we can see that the tested wattage using 0.2Ω coil between 50-120W fell into an acceptable range. The real-time output wattages were quite accurate. When set at 150W, the tested output power surges due to several reasons: continuous testing caused the surrounding temperature to rise and therefore the output power rose in the meantime.
Design + Ease of Use – 8.5
Mod Design
The self-weight of Freemax Maxus Max 168 is quite heavy, not to mention we need to load 2 extra 18650 batteries. The weight is about twice an Apple 13 Pro Max’s (roughly compared, iPhone pro max weights 238g).
Freemax Maxus Max features a 1.3inch IML screen and 4 UI colors for you to choose: blue/red, gold/red, green/red, and pink/red. “+” and “-” buttons are placed under the screen and the Freemax logo. The UI design features large power numbers for easy reading. And you can check each battery level on the top right. The type-c charging port is below the two buttons. On the back, you’ll see Freemax’s image logo embossment and product info. On the left side, it’s the fire button. We especially love the button design, which reminds us of an armor. You can find the airflow adjusting ring is designed as a silver ring on top of the mod with diamond pattern to increase friction. Overall, the design of Maxus Max 168W is tough and solid. The rounded edges felt nice when holding.
Ease of use
The highlight of this Freemax Maxus Max mod in our perspective is the fire button. It’s the largest button we’ve ever seen so far. However, when pressing the bottom part of the button, it won’t fire. Our habits are to press the top of the button with our thumb, which is the easiest and most comfy posture for us.
Airflow
For airflow, it’s easy for us to operate using one hand. The tightness is just right. You can adjust it to a restricted DTL or fully open it for a nice wide-opened DTL. We preferred to open it. The vapor was full of our mouths and wasn’t too airy. The airflow is designed on the device, so when vaping, the air will go all the way from the coil bottom to your mouth.
Pod Design
Freemax Maxus DTL pod can hold 5mL e-liquid. The whole pod is transparent that you can see the juice and internal construction clearly. The 510 drip tip is also transparent, and it’s made integrated with the pod (you can’t replace the drip tip.) There is a strong magnet on the pod and device.
Ease of Use
We’ve seen a lot of top filling design recently. Freemax Maxus Max 168W is not one of them. It adopts side-filling port and it’s convenient to fill no matter how large your e-juice bottle is. One con of this filling port is about the silicone pad. There is no indicators on which side you should lift it. We spend quite a time on pulling it and finally find out we pulled from the wrong side. So, for your information, the right side of the pad is the way you should pull it up to fill the juice.

Verdict
Freemax Maxus Max 168W pod mod kit impressed us in many ways. Freemax has done well in the quality, hand feel, and design. The sub-ohm coils deliver smooth and rich clouds. It’s great for vapers who enjoy to be surrounded by clouds:). The weight is a little bit heavy. If you love the bulky and powerful feeling, it’s perfect. The button is sensitive and responsive.
If you just switch to mod vapes and would love to experience sub-ohm vaping, and you have the plan to go more advanced in vaping, Freemax Maxus Max 168W pod mod kit is great for you. You can start from a low wattage and then opt for other coils to experience higher powers. Also, you can try other modes.
