If you crave for best-in-class vapor production and maximal control over your own vapes, the latest Dead Rabbit 3 RTA by Hellvape might be an ideal solution. Hellvape’s Dead Rabbit series is known for providing quality rebuildable atomizers, from RTAs to more delicate RDAs. Like the Dead Rabbit Max RDA we reviewed early this year—the stellar vaping experience with it has no rival.

As a follow-up to the Dead Rabbit V2 RTA which has had a cult following, Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 is actually confronted with challenges to make itself shine out. It’s a tough task to raise the bar a little higher after all.

This review will walk you through all our first-hand thoughts on the Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA after days of testing. We’ll also compare this latest Dead Rabbit RTA to its predecessors from head to toe.

First Impression on the Outer Look

The Dead Rabbit 3 RTA comes across as a classical Hellvape-style atomizer product. It’s exquisite, well-finished, with the product name and representative rabbit logo finely engraved on the interior metal chamber.

On the base of this latest Dead Rabbit RTA rests a gold-plated 510 connector. Right above is the e-juice reservoir covered by a 3.5ml bubble glass. The good part is this RTA kit provides another glass tube in 5.5ml for replacement; so even though when some occasions call for more e-juice loaded up in the tank, like when you’re out and about, this RTA can get you covered.

Actually, bigger tank capacity is a major update in the Dead Rabbit 3 RTA from the earlier V2. Dead Rabbit V2 allows us to flick between 2ml and 5ml glass tubes, which might be a sticking point for those who vape a lot every day. With the 3 RTA, the capacity rises a bit to 3.5ml and 5.5ml—it’s not large still, but better than nothing. In spite of a larger reservoir, the two RTAs’ diameters are surprisingly almost identical: both in 25mm ID and 50.5mm height. This is surely a spot-on update embraced by all RTA users (us included), who just expect to see in one product both compactness and less refills required.

Refilling System

DSC05057 scaled

The upper part of the Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA consists of an airflow control ring, top cap and 810 drip tip. We refill the tank by turning the top cap counterclockwise and removing it off. The RTA has two fill ports, placed symmetrically next to the vapor chimney which is around one pinky finger wide. We love the ports as they have big openings. Even though we squeezed the e-liquid bottle hard, they offer sufficient space for the rushing e-liquids with no spillage at all.

To secure the cap back in place, make a quarter turn clockwise then. The locking mechanism is cleverly designed to be effort-saving, and meanwhile has a fairly tight seal. There’re no leakage at all unless you flip the device all over. But of course, it was never meant to be used that way.

Build Deck

As its earlier models, Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA features a drop-style postless build deck designed for dual coil builds. It’s the easiest rebuildable atomizer ever to work with. The RTA kit includes in a coil trimming tool that indicates the optimum coil leg length (at 5mm) suitable for this gadget. So you don’t need to do the math on your own, or clip the extra leads repeatedly after the coil is inserted in.

The Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 doesn’t offer as large space as the previous 28.4mm-ID Fat Rabbit RTA, but believe me, 25mm deck means a lot of room for set-ups already. Loosen the screws, drop the pre-built Ni80 coil in and tighten screws back in place—that’s all you need to do to install coils. The shoelace cotton is foolproof as well.

Although Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA is meant for dual coil builds, it’s even easier than plenty of single-coil RTAs which are a real pain in the rear. Even beginners who are not so font of knowledge about coil builds can quickly get the hang of it.

Airflow

Dead Rabbit 3 RTA makes a tweak to the airflow system from the inside out. Although it still utilizes the leak-proof top airflow ring as the last Dead Rabbit RTA does, it adds 7 slots to make for much more accurate airflow adjustment. We also found it’s easier to rotate the ring. It’s not stuck as it used to be.

On the inside, the latest RTA continues with the top-to-bottom airway. While it takes that further by adding two little wings-alike metal strips to both flanks of the deck, and drilling lots of honeycomb holes in there. That does let air move more quickly inside while reducing the loss of it. What’s more, Hellvape digs a ditch underneath the deck to get even more air in. The hell-a-lot-of vapor we spilled is the best proof of how smart its airflow mechanism is.

Flavor & Vapor Production

When starting to take drags from this Dead Rabbit 3 RTA, we’re blown away. The taste is phenomenal and clouds are immense. It’s the most flavorful direct lung RTA with top airflow we’ve ever experienced. Also, the ingenious honeycomb airflow smooths out vapor nicely. This latest Dead Rabbit RTA is definitely the top 3 in our arsenal.

Price

  • Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA: $34.99

  • Hellvape Dead Rabbit V2 RTA: $30.99

The Dead Rabbit 3 RTA by Hellvape seems to us a mid-range product with its price tag of around thirty dollars. Factoring in its ease of use and unique, quality engineering, we’d say it’s worth every penny. Plus, as Dead Rabbit 3 makes decent leaps in the e-juice capacity and AFC compared to the last model but costs only 4 dollars more, it’s hard to fault the price.

Dead Rabbit V2 vs Dead Rabbit 3 vs Fat Rabbit

Hellvape Dead Rabbit RTA

If you’re searching for a RTA with ultimate flavor and clouds, Fat Rabbit is the best among the three. Its side and bottom airflow system makes it a definite winner. Flavor is not only fresher but also lasts longer. But that sacrifices its ability to be proof against leakage, which many of us view as a big fiddle.

After taking everything into account, we would opt for the Dead Rabbit 3 RTA. It’s not the best performer in flavor delivery and vapor production, but the overall performance is still up to par. And its leak-proof feature delivers really hassle-free vaping experience.

Verdict

We love the Dead Rabbit line by Hellvape as much as the next guy. From previous Dead Rabbit Max RDA to today’s Dead Rabbit 3 RTA, we’re always impressed by their exceptional vapor, quality manufacturing and easy set-ups friendly to any beginners.
