How to Make Disposable Vapes Last Longer

Disposable Vape

The dreaded moment has come. You’ve been using your AMGRIN  disposable vape in complete bliss for the past few days – but today, when you sat down for a nice vaping session, your device blinked and didn’t work. Perhaps it didn’t blink, but it either produced a horrible burnt flavor or didn’t generate any vapor at all.

Either way, you know there’s a chance that the device is toast. Unless you planned ahead and already have a device in reserve, that’s a big problem because it means that you can’t vape until you get a new device. So, what should you do next? How do you make disposable vapes last longer, and how long should they last in the first place? In this guide, we’ll provide some tips that can make your vaping experience better.

How to Understand When Disposable Vapes Are Done

Before we dive too deeply into the tips that can help you make your disposable vapes last longer, it’s important for you to understand when a device is actually done. On its own, the fact that your device has a blinking light doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s finished. In the past, you always needed to replace a disposable vape when the light started blinking because disposable vapes weren’t rechargeable or refillable. So, when a device’s battery died, it was time to dispose of it.

Today’s vapes work a bit differently because most of the devices that are currently being sold have rechargeable batteries. When a device starts blinking, the first thing that you should do is check for a USB port. If you find one, it means that the device has a rechargeable battery. To charge the battery, connect the device to your computer with a USB cable. When the LED turns off or changes color, the battery is fully charged.

If you have a vape with a rechargeable battery, it means that you can’t use the light to determine when the device is done. Since you can recharge the battery over and over, the device is only done when it’s out of vape juice. To know that, you should pay attention to the device’s flavor. When no e-liquid remains, you’ll get a burnt flavor every time you try to vape. That’s when it’s time to dispose of the device.

How Long Do Disposable Vapes Last?

To understand how long a disposable vape should last, the first thing you need to know is how many puffs the device is advertised to have. Most of the vapes on the market at the time of writing are marketed as delivering somewhere between about 5,000 and 20,000 puffs – so that’s where you’ll begin. You can think of 300 puffs as being about the equivalent of a pack of cigarettes since people typically puff on cigarettes about 15 times before putting them out. So, if you’re a pack-a-day smoker, you can expect a 5,000-puff device to be good for about a week or two of use on that basis – but disposable vapes often don’t work that way in practice.

Before you start expecting your vapes to last upwards of two weeks, it’s important to understand that it’s an oversimplification to consider every 300 puffs stated on the package to be the equivalent of a pack of cigarettes because manufacturers arrive at those puff counts using automatic smoking machines calibrated to puff for just one second at a time. The next time you use a disposable vape, you should try timing your puffs with a stopwatch. You’ll probably find that your average puff is longer than a second in length. That was probably true when you smoked cigarettes as well. Therefore, it’s safe to conclude that the puff counts advertised on disposable vapes are a bit overstated.

Let’s suppose that the average puff duration when you vape is closer to two seconds than one. In that case, a disposable vape with an advertised capacity of 5,000 puffs will actually deliver more like 2,500 puffs. Therefore, you can most likely expect to use the device for about 4-8 days before it runs out of e-liquid. That’s probably a more realistic expectation than the puff count on the box.

How to Make Disposable Vapes Last Longer

After reading the information above, you should have more realistic expectations for how long a disposable vape should last. Unless you maintain a puff duration of precisely one second every time you vape, no device is ever going to last exactly as long as the package states. Even accounting for your average puff length, though, it’s perfectly reasonable to expect any good disposable vape to last several days before it requires replacement.

So, what if that’s not happening for you? If you’re replacing your devices constantly and spending more money on vaping than you want to, what can you do to make your vapes last longer? Most likely, you need to change something about the way you vape. Here are the three things you need to know.

  • Every time you puff on a disposable vape, you need to wait several seconds and allow the device to cool down completely. If you let the device’s coil overheat, it’ll use more vape juice per puff than it normally would. That’ll cause the device to run out of e-liquid more quickly.
  • Monitor how often you vape and how many times you puff on your device during each vaping session. Your goal is to use the device with about the same frequency that you would have as a cigarette smoker. As we described above, a pack-a-day smoker puffs on cigarettes approximately 300 times per day in all. If you keep track of your puffs throughout the day and establish that same usage pattern, you should be able to expect your vapes to last several days each.
  • When you aren’t vaping, don’t keep your vape next to you. Put some physical distance between yourself and the device. Otherwise, you’ll end up vaping constantly in order to relieve boredom or to keep your mouth and hands busy. Remember that disposable vapes are very high in nicotine. If you vape constantly, your devices won’t last very long. You may even end up consuming more nicotine than you would have consumed as a smoker.
