VAPORESSO is a very well-known manufacturer of premier vape systems. They have many different devices, including tank mod, pod mod, pod, and pen-style models, available for purchase. VAPORESSO recently launched the LUXE XR MAX, the successor to the LUXE XR.

The LUXE XR is a 40W pod mod device, but the MAX beefs this up with an 80W maximum. The LUXE offers both RDL and DTL vaping experiences, thanks to the two included mesh coils, 0.4-ohm and 0.2-ohm, respectively. And with a 2800 mAh battery, you can enjoy the LUXE for hours at a time, only needing the occasional charging period. Continue reading to explore more about what this new device has to offer.

2. Design & Quality

2.1 Packaging

The LUXE XR MAX pod mod comes with everything (but e-juice) that you need to get started enjoying the vape:

2.2 Body Design

The body design on the LUXE XR MAX is really quite beautiful. While the shape is not a groundbreaking design, all edges are rounded, so it’s a comfortable hold for all angles. We received the green colorway to review, which is a sage green color, almost matte but with a slight shine. The other color options include white, red, blue, silver, grey, and black.

On the back of the mod, the LUXE branding is set into clear plastic with a gradient-like black background. This same visual is carried over to the front of the device, which has the displaced inset into plastic as well. Directly above this plastic inset is the draw button.

 

When you push the button, the screen lights up, as well as some impressive gradient blue backlighting. The backlight lights up the circuit board, creating a really cool effect.

 

The airflow control toggle is located on the right side of the vape. It has an ultra-smooth sliding action. And the USB-C charging port is located on the bottom of the device.

2.3 Pod Design

Two refillable 5mL pods are included with the mod-pod kit, one for an RDL experience and one for a DTL experience. The pod sports the familiar duckbill-style mouthpiece and translucent black plastic. You can choose to install one of two pods for an RDL or DTL experience. The RDL option is slightly shorter than the other pod and has a more restricted airflow opening. While the DTL pod is taller and sports a wider airflow opening for deeper hits.

 

The kit also comes with two mesh coils that you will need to install. The 0.2-ohm coil is for the DTL pod, and the 0.4-ohm coil is for the RDL pod. The pods are filled by removing the silicone plug on the bottom of the pod. Each pod also has a minimum fill line, so you always know when you need to refill.

2.4 Battery & Charging

The LUXE XR MAX has a beast of a battery at 2800 mAh. This is in the same battery capacity range as popular external batteries like the 18650s. With such a large capacity, the LUXE pod has an incredibly long-lasting battery for an off-the-shelf vape. You can expect it to last at least 12 hours with consistent use, but can likely ready 16+ hours for more sporadic use.

 

When you press the draw activation button, lighting up the display, you can easily track how much battery power is left within the battery. Because of this, there is no specific LED for the battery level.

 

When it’s time to charge, plug a USB-C charging cable (like the one included in the kit) into the port on the bottom of the device. You’ll be charged in about 60-75 minutes and ready to continue vaping. This might sound like a long time, but most vapers will be able to use the device for one to four days before needing a recharge.

2.5 Durability

The LUXE XR MAX feels really solid in your hand. When dropped from a height of 5ft, the device did not sustain any damage, although the pod may occasionally pop out on impact. The fact that the display is inset within a plastic shell minimizes the chance that the display will be damaged on impact. These features ensure that you can use your LUXE XR MAX device for months and possibly years to come.

2.6 Does the LUXE leak?

No leaking issues were experienced during the testing of the LUXE mod-pod device. Even when refilling the vape, when you need to turn the pod almost vertically, the e-juice stayed completely contained within the pod.

2.7 Ergonomics

The body casing on the LUXE vape is super supple and soft, making it easy to hold in your hand for extended vaping sections. Because all sides are rounded, there are no sharp edges to dig into your hand. The activation button is also well-placed, so there are no weird hand positions needed when vaping. As for the duckbill-style mouthpiece, it allows you comfortably wrap your lips around the pod to get a good seal for deep breaths.

3. Function

The LUXE XR MAX stays away from complex functions and keeps it simple. You can turn the vape on by rapidly pressing the activation button 5 times. The display and backlighting will come on.

 

If you want to change the wattage, press the activation button 3 times, and the wattage number will start to blink. Then you can use the up and down arrow keys (touchscreen) to adjust the wattage to your preference. Press the activation button once to exit this function, or wait until the screen times out.

 

The LUXE also has a menu where you can turn off the LEDs, reset the buff count, and disable/enable Smart Mode. To enter this menu, press the activation button 4 times. Then use the arrow buttons to select the menu item you want to edit. Press the activation button once more to access the setting, and use the arrow keys to make your selection.

4. Performance

The LUXE mod-pod is a joy to vape. The delivery of flavor is on point. And because the LUXE maxes out at 80 W, the device pumps out some massive clouds. The 0.2-ohm coil offers a solid DTL experience that will be well-received by fans of deep inhales and big vapor clouds. The 0.4-ohm coil offers a slightly looser inhale but still delivers on the cloud volume.

The hits are quite warm, but we were pleasantly surprised at the lack of spit back even with a pretty full tank. The airflow control slider adds an extra level of control, so you can choose exactly how much airflow is passing over the coils.

5. Ease of Use

The LUXE XR MAX is really Everyman’s device. It’s simple enough for beginner vapers to pick up but customizable enough to please the most discerning vapers. The biggest hurdle for beginner vapers is going to be the deep DTL or RDL hits. Most new vapers choose disposable vapes because they are low maintenance and offer loose MTL draws that are similar to cigarettes.

 

That may be a deterrent for some beginners, but beyond that, using the LUXE vape is quite simple. It’s a little bit more complex than a mod-pod system with throwaway pods, but the customization features are unintrusive and not needed to enjoy the device. We’d recommend the LUXE for any newer vaper looking to transition away from disposable without diving into external batteries or confusing modes.

 

It’s easy and mess-free to refill the pods, taking no more than a minute. And with a 5mL e-juice capacity, you won’t be constantly refilling the pods like you would with a 2mL capacity.

6. Price

On the VAPORESSO website, the LUXE XR PRO is listed as having a retail price of $54.90. When considering other mod-pods with similar features, this device has mid-tier pricing. But we can tell you, after our review period with the LUXE vape, that we were very impressed with the manufacturing and design choices VAPORESSO made.

 

We feel the solid construction and elegant backlighting are worth a little extra in upfront costs. And because you don’t have to replace the entire pod, just the mesh coils, you will save money in the long run over a disposable pod device.
